Located just 8 kms north of Vasai, Arnala Fort is situated on a small island with a stunning view of the Arabian Sea. Also known as 'Jaldurg' or 'Janjire Arnala', the historical fort is believed to be built by Shivaji Maharaj.
The fort is a mere 5-10 minute ferry ride away from the popular Arnala beach. You will see many beach goers venturing out to explore this beautiful piece of history.
One of the most unique features of the fort being, it has temples as well as mosques. You will find the temple of Ambakeshwar, Goddess Bhavani and Lord Shiva, also the Shahali and Hajjali tombs. Religious festivals are celebrated every year by the locals at this place. You will also see vegetables on plots inside the fort, as well as on the western side outside the fort, planted by the villagers.
On the eastern side of Arnala fort, inside a dome are the ‘Paduka’ of Shri Nityanand Maharaj. A watchtower can also be found on the southern part of the fort. An Octagonal Water Reservoir also being one of its major attractions.

How to reach the fort ?
State Transport buses and share rickshaws are available to take you to Arnala Beach. From there, you can reach the fort by a ferry boat only.
Best Time to Visit:
The beach can be visited all year round. But the best time to visit would be from June to February when the air is cooler and the weather is pleasant.
Modes of Transport to Arnala:
If travelling by road, take the National Highway route, get inside Virar and ride further in to reach Bolinj Agashi Road. The beach has a parking spot for private vehicles too. For best results, Use the map or ask for help.
The best way to reach there is by train. Take a train on the Western Railway Line and get down at Virar station. You will find rickshaws & buses to drop you directly at the beach.
